Starting from Hoburne Holiday Park, Doublebois, (Big thanks for allowing us to park our cars) We then cycled to Bokenna Cross, Draynes Bridge,Bolventor and lunch stop at Jamaica Inn  for a sandwich and a pint of Randy Rudolph beer which was very nice.

After lunch we crossed over the road and returned via DozemaryPool and the East side of Colliford to St Neot, Carnglaze Cavers and a shortbit of the A38 back to our cars.
A lovely ride of 20 miles - a great prelude to Christmas.

Update 19th November 2017

Bike Ride Report – Wednesday 15th November

Setting off from St Austell (Thank you B&M Store for allowing us to park) we cycled on Porthpean Road to Pentewan and on to Heligan, St Ewe, Gorran Churchtown, Portmellon, Mevagissey, Heligan Woods and back to Austell on the Pentewan Trail.

A good Ride of 22 miles with plenty of hills which I possibly played down on my initial ride info on which I stated some hills. Sorry Riders especially those not on ebikes. However it was a lovely ride with superb countryside and coastal scenery. Stopping at Portmellon for our lunch and where could be nicer?

Update 19th October 2017

Report of Bike Ride Wednesday 18th October

Nine riders met at the Crown Inn Lanlivery for a ride on muddy country lanes to Luxulyan and on towards Lockengate, under the A30 and into Bodmin along the trail parallel to the Bodmin Wenford Railway line. Through the industrial estate and into the woods adjacent to Lanhydrock which was our lunch stop. After lunch it was back to Lanlivery via Redmoor.

The weather was kind to us – well at least it didn’t rain!  but unfortunately one of the riders got a puncture which is one of the hazards of cycling especially on lanes when the farmers have been cutting back the hedgerows leaving thorny twigs in the road.

A detour to the Cycle Shop at Lanydrock fixed the problem.

Update 22nd September 2017

Report of September Ride - The Old Cranks Ride Again

This month 7 Riders being assured by the weather forecast that the rain would hold off until the afternoon, met at Lanivet and Cycled on back roads to Roche and on to Indian Queens. The forecast was clearly wrong as the rain came down at this the furthest point from our start. So taking shelter under the A30 Bridge we decided to visit Chapters Diner for a coffee and a dry seat. Unfortunately the rain continued as we pedaled  past the Owl Sanctuary and on to Belowda village and back to Lanivet via the old coach road.

Our saddles may have been damp but our spirits in true U3A fashion were high!

Update 25th August  2017

Old Cranks Bike Ride Wednesday 23rd August 2017

After meeting on Goozion Downs ten riders and two Cormac workers on unicycles (!)  cycled to Mount and Cardinham up and down some serious hills. Before making our way to Warleggan and on to Colliford Lake Tavern for the lunch stop and then returning on the moor road  back to the cars.

Unfortunately living up to the name of our group one of the old cranks on my bike suffered a catastrophic failure and came loose. Despite efforts from a BT worker and two really helpful guys from Lanhydrock Ground Control the fault could not be rectified so I had to leave the ride early and limp back to the car.

The others continued to complete the ride and by the look on their faces at the lunch stop they were pleased to be rid of me!

Update 18th JANUARY 2017

Old Cranks Cycling Group Ride Wednesday 18th January
Golitha Falls and Jamaica Inn

January 18th the Old Cranks met at St Cleer Memorial Hall (thank’s St Cleer for allowing us to park our cars.)

From here we cycled to Golitha Falls and on to the Jamaica Inn for lunch. The road runs along the side of the River Fowey pretty much most of the way.  It’s a lovely road for cycling but the wearing of high viz jackets is essential to alert any other traffic.

We had lunch on the picnic tables outside the Inn which were bathed in winter sunshine in such such a nice part of Cornwall.

After lunch I asked a very nice customer if he would be so kind as to take a group photo of the Old Cranks. He even put his lunch on hold to oblige and I have to say that he takes better photos than I do!

After the photographic session we returned to our cars and the completion of our eighteen mile ride.

Don’t forget if you have a bike and transport - then the Old Cranks could be just what you are looking for.
