"Six ‘intrepid’ photographers set out for St Ives from Lostwithiel train station in sunshine! Marion, Jane & Peter, Bob, David and myself. We all had railcards so no problem with tickets.

David had a plan for his day and left us on arrival at St Ives, in the hope of meeting up for the return train journey! 

A coffee and comfort stop was the first port of call for the remaining five at a Hotel with rooftop terrace for our initial photos of the bay.  After our refreshment we made our way along the sea front and through the streets up to the Museum and onwards to the island. 

At this point there was a small hiatus in the proceedings for two of our party, who did a quick U-turn to the hotel to pick up a backpack, which in the excitement of the day, had been left on the rooftop terrace!! The three remaining members of the group made their way up to the island for more views of the Bay and beach huts.  Re-united with our errant two, we went to the National Coastwatch station, where we were welcomed inside to take pictures and have a chat to the two watch keepers on duty.

After taking photographs at the little Chapel of St Nicholas on the point, we made our way back into town to have something to eat and then it was time to get back to the station. David had had a successful day and met us back at the train station.

We had one short rain shower shortly after our arrival at St Ives but the remainder of the time was fine and sunny but windy out at the island.

I think everyone enjoyed the day, all the trains ran to time and all agreed the weather had certainly made it a good day for photography with the light being just right. "

• Ethy House Garden - Saturday 7th May 2pm to 5pm - bluebells and woodland to rear of house, also excellent cake!

• Boconnoc Gardens - Sunday 1st, 8th and 15th May 2pm to 5pm - mature woodland and lake plus spring flowering shrubs

• Also, for those of us who cannot attend the joint meeting at Lethytep on 10th June, I see from their web site the garden is open on other days during June, which may be of interest.

Dear Photography Group members,                   First of all, Caroline and I would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year         with plenty of photographic opportunities.                   I saw many of you at David Chapman's talk at the U3A general meeting on Monday 4th January , and  as usual David was 
        thoroughly entertaining, including creative knitwear (as featured, click on picture for larger view).                   David has offered to give us another day with the         photography group, and has suggested the following         possibilities:  
         1.   butterflies and flowers and Upton Towans in               mid - July   (could include the silver - studded blue               butterflies mentioned in his talk.)           2.   visit Levant and search for heather, which could               include the Botallack engine houses, in late               August           3.   insect and flower photography at Chyverton,               near Truro, or Windmill Farm on the   Lizard, in               August.                   We could discuss these options at our next Platform Office meeting, so I can confirm a date         and location with David.  
                 Therefore, our following meetings are:          Thursday 21st January   -   usual meeting at the Platform Office at 2pm          Sunday 24th  -   Tuesday 26th January   -   weekend trip to Bristol          Thursday 28th January   -   a field trip for night photography.                   For the 28th January field trip, it was after discussion with various members we have agreed         to go to Looe again, and a field trip sheet for thi s is attached.
